The Castaway Island is a stunning eco-friendly resort that focuses on marine life, environmentalism and togetherness. Speaking to the resort manager Lingo, it was clear that the resort and staff are hugely proud of their sustainability and environmental responsibilities. Lingo's presence was a real highlight of the trip as I learnt so much from him, we laughed non-stop and even shared a nice dinner together on our last night.
Located in the beautiful Mamanuca Island group, we were lucky enough to experience a once in a lifetime; planting coral underwater! I didn't know this even existed. Not only did I get to contribute to the environment, I was also able to get a special glimpse at the most incredible blue starfish and tropical fish. It was an amazing experience!
Night snorkelling over the house reef was another bucket list adventure. There is something pretty spectacular about being underwater during the night, and we even spotted a shark or two! I could tell the resort were very passionate about its marine life.
Of course, there was also lots of girly fun in the sun! We did the usual sunbathing and took in the beautiful white sands and crystal clear water. The Castaway Island resort also helped us with transport to Cloud 9 which was as awesome as it sounds. Think: floating bar, sundecks with day beds, ocean dips and your own pizzeria – it was heaven!
The only downfall was the lack of activities when the weather wasn’t too great. On two of the days, our activities were cancelled due to wind and rain. Although this was a bit disappointing, it gave us the opportunity to meet new friends and hang out with the staff. There was a real feeling of ‘family’ at the resort.
The Castaway Island resort also offers traditional Fijian massage with aromatherapy oils either on the beach (in good weather) or in your private bure (if raining). If you ever get tired of the sand and sea, there are some great restaurants and bars, and even a huge tennis court to work off a sweat!
